Subject: 4 High Binding

Hi guys. Here is a weird one for ya. When I have my 2000, 3.9L, 4X4 Dakota Sport reg cab in 4 wheel drive (4 High), I get an incredible amount of binding in the front end during corners. Feels like someone left the emergency brake on!! It brings ya to a dead stop if you try to turn into a parking spot while in 4. I know some degree of binding is normal but when it causes the the wheels to skid on gravel and the clutch to smoke just trying to get it to move,..something must be wrong. Now,..I noticed this when doing fairly sharp corners and it is worst when the wheels are turned fully, of course. I don't feel much binding while in 2W...very minimal. Right now I am thinking transfer case,...it goes to the dealer tomorrow. Anyone have any ideas in the meantime? I also have the trademark balljoint clunk, and the dry throwout bearing noise as other posts have mentioned previously. All this with 39,000 miles. Suggestions?

I should mention, this problem is evident on gravel and on grass..NOT on blacktop!! I shudder at the thought!! I mentioned the parking spot to give some idea of the radius of turns at which I see/feel this in.

number one are you in 4 hi while on dry pavement? If so the dealer won't cover it because you are eventually going to destroy your truck. Number 2 those are normal functions of 4 wheel drive to "bind" like that. Read your owners manual.
