Subject: Mystery Puddle - Any ideas?
IP: Logged

Message:
I just got a 2001 4x4 QC 5.9L. It was a wrecked truck that we rebuilt. Anyway, all appears well. I've noticed a couple times that I'll drive somewhere and park it and when I return an hour or 2 later, I have a small puddle just about dead center under the front passenger area. I checked it and it looked like it was only water (My A/C is not even charged yet). So I drive home, park it in the garage and wait, nothing, come out the next morning, nothing. I've noticed this in 2 seperate parking lots. I've either got a mystery problem or the uncanny ability to park over someone elses puddle in exactly the same place.

Any ideas??? I'm at a loss. Thanks!

whew, that makes two of us then. I'll have to crawl under when/if it happens again and see whats what.

If anyone else might have any thoughts, love to hear them!

Was it raining out? I have an 01 ext. cab and the windshield leaked in the center of the top, the water would follow the trim down along the passenger door. If you lift the carpet up there will most likely be alot more water. The puddle is just what made it though the carpet.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with a leaky Dak! This truck hasn't seen rain yet so that would rule out the previous post.

If I can get it to do it again, I'll have to crawl under and see what and where. As long as it's not an oil or a tranny fluid, whew.

Had the 2001 QC 4x4 4 days....love it. Getting about 13mpg out of the 5.9. Can't complain much about that. Great ride

Puddle on the floor means your condensor coil is flooded. Even if your A/C isn't charged, it doesn't mean you haven't built up enough water to cause that problem. Your drain tube gets clogged and the condensor overflows with stagnant water, it drips out of the floor vent in your HVAC system. Open up your coil, drain it, bleach it, and snake out your drain hose. If you don't you will burn out your blower motor. Happened to me twice, had that mystery puddle lots of times. Dealership finally confessed to the problem after I handed them my lawyers business card.

Mr Sleepy:
are you talking about a puddle inside the truck or outside the truck? Just wanted to be sure
Mine is outside onthe ground. I'll check the carpet inside the truck but I'm pretty sure all is good there
Please let me know
Thanks!

This puddle is an external puddle, not the A/C interior puddle I've ready plenty about on this site.

I guess all I can do is keep a watch on things.

I was talking about an Interior puddle. I never had an exterior puddle without having my AC on.

Check your thermostat housing for leaks. I had a leak on mine where the water flowed between the Valve cover and intake manifold all the way to the back of the engine... where it dribbled into a nice puddle near where the AC vent tube would drain.
