Message: I have a 2002 SXT with 22,000 miles on it. Is it time to replace the shocks already? It rides well at highway speed, but when cornering at those speeds if i hit a bump the rearend seems to jump out on me. Feels quite unsafe at times.

Message: ummm...I do believe that's a reality of driving a truck. Mine does the same thing on the sport suspension. I'd supposed the SXT would be about the same ride as far as suspension goes. If I were you, I'd throw some sand bags in the bed around the wheel wells until you get used to it. That's what I'm doing and it doesn't jump as much. You can start taking bags out as you get used to it.

Message: Or just get some performance shocks and be done with it. Then you don't have the added weight of sand bags. I recently put on KYB Monomax shocks. Stiffens the ride up some and feels much more controllable.

Message: I went with Edelbrock Performance IAS shocks on my old truck - they work great. They are stiffer, yet control body roll and inertia via a valve in the shock - not too expensive, and really improve cornering and bumps.

Message: cool thanks guys. Getting used to it isn't an option sorry. It didn't do this for the first year that I owned it. I'm going to order some new shocks right now. Would sway bars help or hinder this problem?

Message: Sway bars would definitely help. Hellwig, Quickor, and Hotchkis all make good anti-sway bars.

Message: Do anything like increasing tire air pressure for better milage lately ? Suggestions are right on target; you might find lowering rear tire pressure will help too. Going from 50 to 40 psi really helped mine.

Message: 50 seems pretty high to me. Do you have aftermarket wheels? My pressure is at 35, but i noticed in my manual it says that if most of my driving is above 65 (which it is) i should increase the psi by 10 for better milage.

Message: It is a truck. Made for hauling for stuff. You have a stiff rear suspension with a light back end. It will bounce when you hit a bump unloaded.

See?? Someone agrees with me. It isn't a car, and will never handle like one.

Message: I am embarrased to say I used to have a 1990 Ford F150. Thing rode like a Cadillac with about 800 pounds of cement block in the bed.
It's a truck, like everyone says. If not using for truck purposes, changing out the Shocks would be a good move. have fun!

Message: i'm not wanting it to ride like a caddy. I just don't want the back end to swing out going over small bumps. IT DIDN'T DO THIS FOR THE FIRST YEAR I OWNED THE TRUCK.

Message: I wouldn't put it past any auto manufacturer to design a component for failure. Thus you need replacements and you just might buy theirs resulting in more money for them. My wife's Concorde is like that, the OEM Mopar Tie Rod ends (or ball joints or something) do not come with grease fittings. NO grease = worn out joints.
Getting some other shocks may be your answer. Especially if it hasn't done it from day 1.

Message: You're shocks could be shot. My truck did this from day 1, due as much to the stock shocks not being matched well to the suspension as the fact that it is a truck. I've owned many trucks over the years, and although the Dak is my favorite, it does have a few quirks such as this. You don't need aftermarket rims to run 50 psi, thats what many truck tires take for max load. Ran that with my '75 W100 without it skipping around like the Dak, and that was a shortbed RC too. By all rights that truck shoul have been worse with the overload springs I had in it.
