 Subject: smog connversion in ca

i'm looking to purchase a used dakota not necessarily being sold in ca....now only ca smog equip. is installed on ca dakota's......so my quesion is if i buy a truck outside of ca is it possible to have the smog equip. installed to ca smog standards or do i have to purchase the truck from within ca?

Call CARB, I know that they used to charge a somg impact fee ( 300$) per vehicle that came in california from out of state. they cant charge that anymore. I was supposed to get a refund for mine but it never happend ( my old chevy came from Reno) As far as I know is if it complies with federal smog standards it is legal.
But call CARB. believe it or not some of those guys are pretty cool people
