Subject: "Superoils?" Mobil 1 Castrol Amsoil RL ?
IP: Logged

Message:

Just rolled over 3k miles on my new Dak. 1st oil change. My last truck went to 270k miles before a wreck did her in. Bad news was I went thru 2 engines. Is there a "superoil" that will get me the same 270k miles on 1 engine?

I would not use anything other than AMSOIL if I could afford a new DAKOTA.

I have seen many vehicles that use AMSOIL go well over 300,000 miles using AMSOIL.

In fact ... I know of one mail carrier vehicle (a right hand drive 4-cyl JEEP) that went over 1,000,000 miles using AMSOIL 10w-30 and it was featured in a postal employee magazine as well as a JEEP magazine.

Amsoil AMSOIL AMSoil = American Synthetic Oil

Message:

Okay Ricker,

First - IMHO - There is no "superoil". Let's take it in order...

Group III Oils are Hydrocracked (NOT TRUE Synthetics)
Group IV & Group V Oils ARE TRUE SYNTHETICS

Therefore ...

Mobil1 is a TRUE Synthetic, Castrol Syntec is NOT a REAL synthetic, it is a Group III hydrocracked oil with some Group IV synthetic blended in. However, IMHO ... I believe (through the evaluation of many UOA's - Used Oil Analysis) that it is probably one of the best Group III oils currently on the market). Amsoil is a TRUE Synthetic using both Group IV & Group V base oils. I would not use RL (Redline) in a daily driver.

The choice is yours and there is really no such thing as a "superoil" ... as in "one size fits all". UOA's determine which oil is best for each individual engine based on environment, driving conditions, driving habits, etc.
