I've never seen such sudden price jumps, even including 1979 when gas went from 50cents to $1.09. Yesterday, some stations were still $2.19 for 87. Those same stations are $2.35 today. I saw a high of $2.45 today. It seems like the employees changing the numbers on the signs are getting a workout. I went down one street two days ago, and four hours later it went up 10 cents. A "gas war" in reverse! The truck (18 wheelers) drivers are really getting slammed in the bank account.

$2.549 for 87 and 89 in my part of southeastern ND. At the start of the week it was $2.299, and yesterday it was $2.399 at one station and $2.469 at the other.
I love how the prices jump up right with the commodities market -- but when the commodity price falls, it sure takes a long time to see a significant change.

gas in Edmonton,Alberta,Canada 97.9 cents a litre x 3.78 = $3.70 US for 87 octane, now how insane is that considering Alberta is the oil captial of Canada.

The price of oil is hovering around $66. The oil companies are raking in huge profits now.
I filled up yesterday for $2.46/gallon ($2.49 but I got $0.03 off with my Kroger Plus card) in the Atlanta GA area.
I saw a report that AAA said they expected it to rise $0.05/gallon over the weekend.

I agree completely with ptschett; the gasoline in the ground now was bought at a cheaper price, but the price on the pump has major, MAJOR markup. If a station has 10,000 gallons in the ground, and raises the price 1 cent, there is an extra easy $100. Go up 24 cents a gallon in two days, like one station down the street here in Tennessee, and the station owner is singing all the way to the bank. On the flip side, businesses/commuters/students who cannot pass on the extra cost easily will see their spending habits change dramatically. A recession is becoming a rapid possibility.

i just paid $2.53 a gal to fill my V-6 Dak from empty (i thought i was going to need a loan for the $50 bucks to fill it)

$2.50 in Richmond, VA. Bend over, it will just get worse. Our jobs and prosperity are going to China and to add insult to injury their economy is booming driving gas, cement, steel and other building materials costs way up.

$2.79 for 87 octane, $2.99 for 91 and $3.09 for diesel here in Irvine, CA.
I just paid $56.00 to fill up and had to set Superchips back to the 87 setting :(
