My 2000 CC 4.7 5-speed 3.92 4x2 came with GY wrangler RT/S tires (235/75R15) and I'm seriously considering going to a more street friendly tire such as the BFG radial T/A in 255/70 which will put me about +.18" taller. No big deal because i'm on the 3.92 rear and would like to gain some mileage anyway.
I'm wondering if anyone could predict what kind of performance change I should expect. I am in NJ so I drive in some snow, but how much worse could the radial T/As be compared to the crappy RT/S? I had trouble getting up a small slope in my driveway with them in a couple inches of snow. If the radial T/As would be horrible in any wet or snow then I guess I'd have to stick with more of an all season LT tire. If so, I'm considering either the Bridgestone Dueler A/T or the Dunlop Radial Rover A/T, both in the 255/70R15 size. Has anyone used any of these tires after the dreaded RT/S? If so, please share your experience.

ALL the BFG tires seem good, seem to hold up. Ive seen alot of Bridgestone Duelers around here that are worn out, leading me to believe the tread doesnt last very long. I dont know though. If you go more AT, I put YOKOHAMA GEOLANDAR AT+ on my Durango. They were only $99 a piece for 31x10.50 and have a nice aggressive tread that rides really smooth and quiet on the highway as well as performing well in mud and snow. I would recommend them.

For a more street tread I put michelin cross terrain suv's on my truck, they are great, grip very well wet or dry, quiet,smooth riding and have a 65,000 mile tread life waarranty

I just got rid of my bald goodyear eagles ls
255 65 15 and switched to bfg 255 70 15 for cost
2 for 1 i think there fine and i can brake torqu
now

I had the same problems with the GY Wrangler RT's on my 2001 quad.
They're crap in the snow.I'm from Ontario and I know snow.
I up-sized to Bridgestone Deuler AT revo's and love them.The important thing is to get the Revo's and not the old style Deulers.They're 2 totally different tires.
You said you wanted good road manners out of your tires. The Bridgestones are quite good handling with some noise but considering the agressive tread they're surprisingly quiet.
I had Dunlop Radial Rovers on a previous truck and sold them after only 6,000 miles.
The road noise was terrible.Couldn't hold a conversation on the highway.
If snow-mobility and very quiet tread and good "car-like" handling is really what you want
the IMO there is only 1 choice, Michelin LTX M/S.
I've got them on my van and I really considered them for my truck, but went for more aggressive tread.The also wear like iron. 60,000 miles and 1/2 worn.

I had 31x10.50's on my older F-150. In my opinion, outstanding snow/Mud traction, even at higher wear. Wet roads.ice/hardpacked snow, gets a little slick but what doesn't. The wear could be better. Just got a 2001 QC 4x4, when the "goodforayears" wear out, i'll either got BFG or the Bridgestone Revo's.
