Subject: oil pressure gauge IP: Logged
Message: for the past 3 months my 94 dakota 3.9L oil pressure gauge will show normal oil pressure then for no rhyme or reason will drop to dead zero and in a minute or two will go back to normal.
Hunch is its just a fault gauge. Any suggestions

Message: Gauge or sender. My Dak shows 0 oil pressure at start up for about 3 or 4 seconds, then goes to 20lbs and stays there for about 3 or 4 seconds the goes to the higher end of the gauge. I'm going to change the sender this week.

Message: Easy and cheap to replace sender.
If you hook up a mechanical gauge for testing, it's just as much work to replace the sender.
It's a 1 1/16 deep socket, the sender is just left of the distributor. (right side of engine, left as you look at it)
Be careful not to break the new one-- they are not very tolerant of abuse.
I assume you have not sludged up your engine and have checked oil level and other basic stuff.
