Message: Yea a Dakota with a powerstroke(sorry cummins fans) would be pretty impressive if you could keep the front end in the air....3406 cat would be even more impressive but it would look funny with 5 feet of engine out front:)

The Dakota Diesel is produced in South America (Argentina) and the factory rep that I talked to at 1-800-4A-Dodge said that they have no intentions of bringing that truck to the states due to low demand.
Why don't all of you call Dodge at that number and request that they change their way of thinking.

Message: I'd buy one if it had more than 125hp (the S. AMerican version. The new Mercedes diesel going in the diesel liberty has 148hp/266ftlbs I believe. That would be good if they could make the Dakota lighter. Otherwise I'd like to see some where along the lines of 200hp.

Message: Here's one that goes 12.00's @ 118 or better:
From the builder, Jeff Garmon:
THIS IS A DAILY DRIVER, HOWEVER IT HAS ALL THE GAUGES
OPERATING, AC COMPRESSOR AND ALL .
THIS IS NOT REALLY ALL THAT HARD TO DO. I INSTALLED
ALL OF THE SENSORS SUCH AS OIL PRESSURE WATER TEMP
IN THE DIESEL.
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON SINCE THE FACTORY
COMPUTER WAS USED TO OPERATE THE DASH.
I REMOVED THE BULB , SO WHEN YOU GET IN AND FIRE
IT UP THE INTERIOR LOOKS THE SAME DOWN TO THE FUEL
GAUGE AND WIPER DELAY!
THE ENGINE IS COMPLETELY NEW
HX-40
MARINE 370 INJ PUMP
370 INJECTORS
ELECTRIC PUSHER PUMP
34 DEGREES INJ TIMING
SUNCOAST TRANSMISSION
SUNCOAST TORQUE CONVERTOR
CUSTOM VALVE BODY WITH LOCKUP
IN ALL FOUR GEARS WITH A FLOOR
RACHET SHIFTER!
THIS TRUCK HAS NOT BEEN LIGHTENED AT ALL
IT STILL HAS THE SPARE TIRE!
ALSO I USED THE STOCK GAS TANK
CONVERTED TO DIESEL"
Go to http://www.dieselperformancemotorsports.com/
and look under the "DPM Rattlers" section for more....

Message: That thing is so cool. Doesn't it get like 28mpg or so too? Man I'd love to have a diesel. The biggest one that'll naturally fit into the bay. Naturally meaning without having to put anything in the bed and or cut into any firewalls

Message: Well, that's a Cummins in that Dakota, so it looks like you're gonna have to go with a smaller motor to get it in there without cutting or movin'....
But yeah, here's more of that post from Moparchat:
"Jeff also did a 150 mile trip and logged 31 MPG. No joke!! At 70 mph, the boost guage is barely off zero. The truck is barely working. "

Message: You could probably put the radiator in front of the suport and place the AC under the support. THat should make it fit ok...
Now the flex-a-lites would probably hit the grill/hood, but I think the general public would accept a re-designed hood too.

Message: Definitely a cool project job, but if I had my druthers & the resources I'd build a nice fast airplane instead. If the money, time, and headache factor is a consideration, you'd be far ahead of the game by just buying a new HO Cummins 3/4 ton with taller gears, and putting in a bucket seat.
