Subject: front rotor install how-to IP: Logged
Message: Just bought some EBC 6000 brake pads and was planning on an r&r all my brakes this weekend. rear brakes are no prob, but how do you properly remove the front?? There is no front ABS. I am assuming of course remove the caliper, dust cover, cotter pin and castle nut and off comes the rotor -which will be machine turned. How do I reinstall? Should i automatically replace the dust seal (if there is one) as there are 52,000 miles on it. How do you tighten the rotor? Is it a series of "torque to this spec" then back off 1/4 turn? Thanks for the help.

Message: I just changed out both rotors and pads on my '98 and it was very simple. remove the wheel and tire, remove 2 hex head screws holding caliper on, remove caliper. If there is a pressed on lock washer on one of the lug nuts, just cut it off. Remove the rotor (may take a rubber mallet if it is stuck). Remove the pads, get you a "C" lamp and push the piston back into the caliper, make sure the cap is off of the brake fluid holder because as you push the pistons in, the fluid will possibly come out of the top of the resevoir. Install the new pads, slide the rotor back on over the hub, put the caliper back on torque 2 hex head screws 200 inch pounds and install the wheel and tire. Torque lug nuts to 100 foot pounds in a star crisscross pattern. Done.

Message: Thank you for the info- it sounds pretty straight forward. Thank you especially for the specs. Was there a spec for tightening the spindle nut for the rotors? Thanks for your time.

Message: I did not have to take the spindle nut off, just the lug nuts. After the 6 lug nuts are taken off, and that little lock washer is removed (if there is one installed if not that's alright too), the rotor comes right off. No messing with spindle nut.
