Subject: Shifting without using the clutch IP: Logged
Message: I was just curious if anyone ever shifts without using the clutch in their truck. I'm curious to see if that would save on the clutch in the long run. Any thoughts?
Thanks, Zach.

Message: a few month ago, i felt mine clutch star to slip, so i wouldn't use it to shift from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th. it worked fine until i could get money to fix it. I wouldn't recommend it if you don't need to though. They make the clutch for a reason.

Message: More then likely you couldnt shift consistantly enough to make it worth the effort. Wish they put the paddle shifters in QC's.

Message: I have been shifting without the clutch since I bought it new. I have a 96 with 90,000 miles. Never had any clutch or transmission issues. I also tried double clutching, but with today's synchros this doesn't really do anything. My clutchless shifting is done when driving in "Daily" mode- shifting at or below 2500 rpm. Above 3000 rpm, I always use the clutch. I changed the fluid from factory to Mobil synthetic (If I knew a local Amsoil dealer I would go with their product) and noticed the transmission is much smoother. Typically I shift clutchless when upshifting, but I have done it downshifting.
