Subject: trans pan & cooler line leak IP: Logged
Message: Hi,
I'm new to the Dakota world so go easy on me. I found a '95 5.2l Dakota at a dealer for sale but one the disclosure slip it indicates that the trans pan and cooler lines have leaks. Can I take these at there face value or do they indicate something more serious? Are these a common problem?
I haven't driven it yet but it looks in nice condition otherwise. Are there other issues I should be on the look out for?
It has 85k miles on it and they are asking $4500.
Thanks,
Joel

Message: I wouldn't worry about a leak in itself, but you may want to have a mechanic look over the vehicle if you are not sure.
The previous owner may have let the trans run while low on fluid and may not have... It's hard to tell. See how it shifts.
85 Thousand miles is a extremely low figure for a truck that old. Even if the trans went in a year or so you would have still made out.The 318 is a good, strong, time tested engine.
