I have a 97 V8 dakota that has one problem. The dull finish on the front bumper is starting to rust. Does anybody have a way to stop the rust that doesn't mismatch the paint to badly. Also, if the only thing i can do is take the bumper off and paint it, how do i get the bumper off.

Yes, 4 bolts and bumper comes off. I suggest this rather than touching up. Even if paint matches, still will look touched up. Sand blast the entire bumper, then give it a good priming. Wet sand and repaint. I'd give it 2-3 coats of Satin Black. This is a common problem. I see lots of Dakotas with this rust, mine included. The above suggestion is what I intend to do with mine.

If your bumper is anything like my '97 was good luck. Mine rusted no matter what I did and I finally gave up. If it is bad, buy an aftermarket bumper or get a newer one with the plastic cover.

I want to remove my front bumper and have it and the bottom valance repainted.
I was wondering about the airbag sys. Dont want my airbags deploying when removing the bumper or driving around without it on.
I need to drive it a couple days while this stuff is getting painted.
Does anyone see a problem with that?
