Subject: Traffic ticket - 4 option?
IP: Logged

Message:
For all you Texas speeders.....

I've recently racked up two speeding tickets w/in a month of each other. (One is legit,,,I deserved it,,the other the dude was a punk..long story...) Anywho, I can have one dismissed by taking defensive driving, but that leaves the other one that might go on my record.
Has anyone heard of/or taken the fourth option,,,like probation for 6 six months? They say it's not advertised,,,and basically they let you take defensive driving AGAIN to dismiss another ticket - but if you screw up again in 6 months two tickets will show up.
Anyone in TX done that? - I'd really appreciate the help,,,insurance sux as it is.

with the probation you dont have to take defensive driving again... it usually last about 3-9 months and comes with a fine (around $100-200 here). If you behave in the city that you got it in for the amount of time given to you... you get it dimissed.

i have done it twice now.

Hey Greg! - Not sure if you remember me or not, but I met you at Speedtweaks about a year ago - had my graphite CC lowered.

Anyway - you said you have taken the fourth option before on your post - did you have to appear before the judge to do so? Could you throw me some details as I've never done it before, and I'm a little confused. Is the probation only for the city you got it in? That would rock cause I got it in San Antonio, and I don't live there... - wait,,,,would that cause a problem?
Any info is appreciated.

Ive done probation before and it looks like you cant have a violation state wide. This was for SAPD. Its really simple you just walk into the court house and tell the court that you want probation. You have to pay a $40 probation fee and another $50 court cost, $90 total. Get those cams yet????

Heres exactly what it says on the form:
(insert your fines and dates)

Effective today, ,2003 You the defendant are hereby placed on probation for the above offense. To be placed on probation, you are required to par a supervisory fee as ordered by the court and you must not be convicted of any similar of moving offense(s) while on probation. Upon successful completetion of probation, your case will be dismissed on, ,2003. The above offense will not be placed on you state driving record and you will not need to appear on the date. (supervisory fee is non-refundable)

However, if you violate the terms of probation, you will then be required to pay a fine of $000.00 and any additional applicable fees. The resultant conviction will then be placed on your state driving record.

Peter! - what up? Ya I got the cams a week ago or so - just been goofing off toooooo much to put them in.

Cool - I'm going to call them back and ask about it then. The wierd thing is that when I initially called in early July they said not to call back till Sept.! They were still on October's tickets,,,,they must be racking up the bills in SA!

I'll drop you an email/call one of these days - see if you can still help me out with those cams. You get your project car?

yes i remember ya... i helped lower that truck.

When i went to the court office about the ticket, i just had to set a court date to state my intentions.. basically if i wanted to fight it or just take the probation. Believe me, they would rather you do the probation because it would cost more money for them to have a court hearing about some stoopid ticket.

Option 5. This has worked for me 4 times here in Indianapolis. Police officers schedule all their tickets for the month on the same date. They don't have time to go to court several times a month. About a week before your court date, call the traffic court and tell them you have to be out of town on that date and need to rescedule for the next week. When you come in on that date, the judge says, "The following people may leave. Your officer has failed to appear". When your name is read, you get up and go. Nothing ever shows on your record. This only works in the larger cities. In small towns, the officer will still show up on the alternate date. Like I said, I don't know if this will work where you live, but it's worth a try.

I agree, slow the hell down. Even if you go to court and "win" the case/ticket, you really end up losing. You have to take time out of your schedule/work to travel to court. You spend all this effort trying to beat the system, but the simple solution is to just not put the right foot down as far.

Really, if you know you're breaking the law by speeding, then suck it up when you get caught and quit complaining about it. Plenty of racetracks around if you wanna show off.

Timberwolf,

Here the cop doesnt have to be present on your court date. If you dispute the ticket here you will go to trial. Thats when they set up for the office to be there.

Cool thing is I met a cop going to school in FL at work the other day,,,he gave me some advice - similiar to above. He said he never goes to court for the people he tickets,,,so everyone that shows up goes free. Pretty cool guy.
