Subject: '03 Quad cab leans to driver side
IP: Logged

Message:
I just bought a 2003 Dakota quad cab 4X4. It has only 4900 miles and drives very nicely but I just noticed that it is not level when viewed from straight behind. It leans noticably to the driver side. The previous owner did use 4 wheel drive to access his house due to steep, wet unpaved driveway condition but did not rock crawl or go off road otherwise. Any hints as to what my be the cause or, more importantly, the fix. I am hoping for a suspension adjustment but I am truly clueless. Thanks for any suggestions.

my 2001 4x2 QC did the same thing, it was about an inch lower on the left side. I only noticed it when I lowered it. I just bought a new 2003 4x2 QC and I haven't looked yet, I will likely notice it when its lowerwed. Some have said they all do that because the gas tank is on the left side....???? not sure why, but yours is not the only one and it might not have anything to do with what the previous owner did or didn't do with it.

Alot of these trucks come from the factory unlevel. It is usually because one torsion bar is cranked higher than the other. Get under the truck and check the threads at the torsion bar adjuster. Lower/ raise the adjusters until the threads are even, then get out and check for level. The bars are not exactly precise, so measure from the wheelwell to the ground on each front side until and adjust bars until you get level. Hope that helps. By the way, jack both front tires off the ground when turning bars. This makes turning much easier and takes load of the bars.
