 Subject: 95 tach stopped working

I have a 95 Dakota V6 2WD. My tach all of a sudden stopped working. The little shift light still works, but the needle doesn't move. All other gauges work fine.
I removed the dash and gauge cluster and everything looked ok. I removed the tach by itself and the needle moves freely by hand. Any idea what might be causing this? Could it be a simple replacement of the tach?

Your dealer can do a tach. test using their DRBII or DRBIII scan tool ( sorry I don't know what it will cost )
