Has anyone experienced brake trouble (non rotor related) in their new Daks? Mine truck pulls when I step on the brakes and it isnt always the same direction. Sometimes left, sometimes right....And they seem very "sticky"....kinda the way your brakes would feel when they are wet. They are really bugging me.

Am I the only one with this issue?

I have a 98 dakota. Actually I have had 2 so far. The first truck they did a factory buy-back because it was a lemon and the one I have now is equally a piece of crap. One drop of moister on the rear brakes and they TOTALLY LOCK UP! This is the nicest looking worst operating vehicle I have ever owned. I have had so many problems with the entire truck I absolutely HATE it. It's for sale.

Steve - (the ex-dodge one)

WOW, sorry about your luck! It probably doesn't make you feel any better but I have had no problems at all with my 99 V6. I guess you have to file that one in the Shit Happens file.

Steve (the other one)

Have you pulled the wheels to see what the pads look like. Have you had any hard breaking lately-like when some high school chick pulls out in front of you?

Break pads may "glaze" under hard and long breaking. One may glaze while the other is fine. This may cause some pulling.

I realy like my 2001 Dak QC but they realy need to improve the brakes. I can not belive that they are still useing the slideing caliper system on a truck this new. My 86 Toyota 4Runner has 4 piston non-slideing calipers up front. They look like Brembo's but are made out of cast iron. I would also like to meet the engineier that decided to put that little access hole up front to reach the oil filter. The things that realy piss me off thoug are as follows: no under coating, no tow hooks, no skid plates, no drain plug on rear diffand no drain plug on the A/Trans pan.

I got a 98 clubcab 318 I have kinda a small problem with my brakes, when I am doin 50mph+ and hit the brakes hard, they don't like to work. The pedal gets HARD and won't go through its travel, I have experienced this a few times. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I have a 1995 dakota sport ext-cab. the problem that I have is that my breaks started squeeling and when I took it into "brake masters" they showed me that (plastic piston????) in the left front caliper had mushroomed causing the break not completely release on that wheel. It ended up recking the rotor by grinding the shoe into it. Almost $500.00 later, I still have problems believeing there was a plastic piston in there. The owner at "brake-masters" said that for a time, Dodge used plastic pistons in their calipers to save money. Has anyone else heard of this????

I've owned Dodge's most of my life - and I have come to one conclusion - they're brakes suck. I planned on putting cross-drilled rotors on the front of the truck though, so I was like, oh well. But all my cars, the brakes always felt warped, and threw the car left or right a little bit.

I have a '97, and no, they have not stopped using plastic pistons in the caliper. When I compressed one of the pistons to install new pads, it broke! I have never had this happen on any car before. It kinda shocked me to see this. I replaced it with a used one. I just could'nt see spending the big bucks for an aftermarket brake set-up.
