Subject: HELP WITH WHEELS IP: Logged
Message: Ok guys i want to get black steel wheels for my 1997 dakota CC 4x4 w/5.2. i went to a wheel store and saw the wheels i wanted, theyr the black steel wheels with the small red and blue stripe going around the edge. ive seen these wheels on 2x2 AND 4x4 daks, old and new. the guy said that they wouldnt work on my truck because sicne its a 4x4 the front wheels are set like a front wheel drive car. so if i were to put those wheels on they would stick out like 4 inches. i thought i could get diff back spacing but i dont know what the deal is. PLEASE CAN ANYONE WHO HAS THESE WHEELS TELL ME WHERE THEY GOT EM, WHAT SIZE THEY ARE, AND WHO MAKES EM. I really want these wheels so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Message: He is partially correct. The wheels for your truck have a positive offset. Front wheel drive cars also have a positive offset. The wheels you were looking at only have about 3 3/4 backspacing. That means they have a negative offset. They will stick way out like he said. Not 4 inches but about 2 inches.

Message:
You can get the nascar look alike rims for a dakota. the 4 wheel drive shop thats across the way from me installs them on everything they lift.
i have no idea what the last guy was saying about positive offset. Dakotas do not run positive offset wheels at least the new ones dont.
you can get those rims with a stock offset so they dont stick out. if you cant get them let me know Ill give you the name and # of the 4x guys next to my shop and theyll find the rims for you

Message: mag 762 ... sounds like you referring to the AR-767s. I did use 2 of them for drag tires. Mine were the 15x8 rims. Backspacing is 5 1/16". Stock 15x8 rim's backspacng is 5 5/8". They will stick out. I believe that the AR-767 is also available as a 15x7, but not 100% sure. HTH.
