Subject: Air Conditioning Woes IP: Logged
Message: I've got a 92 V8 5.2L Ext Cab Auto Gen II.
My air conditioner is not working. Fan and heater etc. work fine.
The Freon was just filled and is fine and the condensor/compressor is fine.
Guy I know said it was some kind of switch in the air conditioning core (?).
Any ideas? He quoted me about 200 to fix and said that the problem was most likely in the cab. Said the part was 30-40 dollars but labor intensive.
Any advise would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Josh

Message: I had a car where something called the 'check valve' went bad. It was also a $30 part, but the labor was $$$ since you had to completely disassemble the dash to the firewall to get to it. So that is not impossible.

Message: That's what it was. The check valve.
Anybody have any experience replacing that?

Message: I have the same issue with my '88. My problem seems to be in the switch or control head. If i move it to say heat, i'll lose A/C when I try to go back to it. Then I have to move and push the buttons till it works. My condensor also has a small leak. Fortunatley I have converted to 134 so I can refill at little to know cost. So I'll keep doing that since my guy said about $500.00 due to labor also.
