Subject: exhaust on a 4cyl. IP: Logged
Message: well i really want to find a v6 auto single cab dak. but i am finding tons of 4cyl. for pretty cheap so this is what i was thinking:
can i put exhaust on a 4cyl. and it will sound good because i am getting the cervini sniper kit and it comes w/ exhaust out the sides which i like but will it sound good? what should i do.
i am also putting 20" rims on low-pros so this will make me go a bit slower, will i have enough pickup to actually go at a good speed?
Thanks and when i get my truck, probably this week or next i will be buying the sniper kit 1st, new paint job, 20s then sound. once its done i will upload a few pics.

Message: You should really really really try to find a v8 or v6. 20's and a body kit will just add weight. Remember that the dak will already weigh in at around 3400lbs ish. Being that you will only be putting around 100hp to the rear wheels...you will be a dog. A three legged lame dog for that matter.
If you insist on the 4cyl and 20's you should look into some billet 20's. These weigh about as much as the stock alloy's do from what I understand. I think centerline makes them.
Check:
truckperformance.com
krcperformance.com (you'll have to contact them directly probably)
turbocity.com
for 4cyl performance upgrades. Ask a few techs at turbocity and krc about PCM upgrades potential for the 4cyl.
Good luck

Message: I'm not sure what the Cirvini Sniper Kit is, but I still may be able to help.
Watch the area of your exhaust pipe. With too great an area, (Like an exhaust system designed for a v8) you will have zero backpressure and most likely loose some low end torque. Torque is what moves your truck and the 4 cyl. engine does not have a whole bunch of it to spare.
On the note of torque, a Dakota is not a light weight by any means. A 4 cyl. engine has to work much harder than a 6 or 8 to move it. This means you have a greater possibility of engine wear. This may be the reason why they are "cheap". You will be moving something the same weight as a full size Ford with an engine that belongs in a Honda. (The full size Ford we
I would put off the paint job or rims a few months and save for the larger engine.
