Message: I don't know the rules, but there is likely a reason. Could dodge use the hemi for racing with the stock cars? I know it was ruled out in the earlier years but I don't know why.

Message: The hemispherical type combustion chamber was outlawed. The new one does not qualify anywho because it's not a true hemi anywho. Just another marketing ploy.
And moreover they (NASCAR) are only interested in parity and not innovation or individual ideas or new technology. There is not one part on the cars today that are/have anything to do with what is on the street. Take the "stock" out of "stockcar" and call it the National Madeup Car Whatever We Want to make it and make you think it's a stock car you idiots...somewhat Racing Good Ole Boys Club. How's that?
Remember when American engine building dominated the world racing scene? No more......Honda, Toyota are the real innovators and leaders in the business. As a result, they will/are the best for the money in terms of quality, reliabilty, power and economy. Need I say more.

Message: I like the "good old boy" racing I would pay to see steet/bracket/local oval rather than high dollar bill boards rolling down the track. I thought they could use it as long as they remain within the cubic inch rule. But if they want to stay in the stone age go for it.

Message: Nascar motors no longer bear any resemblance to what is run on the street. The 426 hemi was banned because it was too good, they try to keep the racing fairly even.

Message: If NASCAR had a races on dirt, Tony Stewart would win every single race and then everyone would say how boring it was that everyone else was racing for 2nd place. I've seen everyone from Mel Kenyon to Kenny Irwin to the Kinsers race on dirt and no one is even close to Tony Stewart. He can literally step into a car and win any time he wants to. It's almost scary how good he actually is on a dirt track.

Message: Before the "Modern Era" NASCAR started in 1972, they did run dirt tracks. Richard Petty even won a race once where the inside of the flat oval was a football field! Even back then, the local guys didn't have a chance on their home tracks against the NASCAR boys, track record-wise. NASCAR always penalized grand innovation. Two of the most famous bans were the Hemis and the winged cars. Can't lick 'em / ban 'em.

Message: it is 358 but for the intrepids, it should be 215, the GPs and Monte Carlos 233, and the Taurus should be 183, since those are the biggest engines they come with, and they should all be V6s, but that would suck, because V8s still rule

Message: The cars that run in Nascar races have little in common with the street cars that they look like. The factories have nothing to do with their construction other than financial and engineering support. The only thing "stock" on them are a few pieces of sheet metal. The cars are fabricated in race shops far away from the factories. The whole thing is, pretty much, a marketing illusion ( a pretty damned entertaining illusion). For instance, all of the cars that run in Nascar are based on front wheel drive street cars. The race versions run rear wheel drive (they all use the same Ford 9" rears). Nascar wants an even playing field for the differant makes, so they all run 358 cu. in. engines which are mainly constucted from aftermarket parts.
