Message: If any of y'all have Warranty Gold and are filing a repair claim, this news is for you:
The claims administrator company for Warranty Gold (and nearly all the other warranty extensions) has gone 404!
The phone message is frightening - just hang on and wait to speak with a rep. Your claim will not be processed, but you'll have a chance to speak with someone, which may give you a little peace of mind.
Here's what news I could find:
http://www.autowarranty.cc/news/?story=24
According to the rep at WG, this outfit got in trouble with another warranty company over a bad claim; they abtuptly went into Chapter 11. Apparantly, the contracts they have with WG and others includes a trusteeship which affects funds disbursement. In this case all claims funds are frozen until a judgement is reached in the court of the Caymen Is.
So, we're left with having to pay for our WG-covered repairs up front, save the "paid" invoice, and try to get reimbursed once funds are freed.
This totally sucks - offshore paper corporations, fat lawyers, blameless victims. It's not WG's fault, so don't flame them (until we know everything).
I'm trying to buy a house and now I am facing a $600 control arm bushing job.
Stay tuned; resolution should come soon (check's in the mail).
:-(

Message: Warranty Gold is an outside-the-factory warranty. They have been great, covering darn near everyhing (which isn't much, but still pricey); after this frontend work, it will have paid for itself.

Anybody with a Warranty Gold, purchased before June 6, 2003 is FU@%ED.
I lost a $550 claim I had from July and it looks like there is no hope of recovery.
I cannot, in good faith, recommend any 3rd-party warranty company again - I have lost all confidence in their reliability.
Even though they they have a new underwriter, this casts a dark stain on their reputation which cannot be removed.
