Subject: ac drain (could be helpful) IP: Logged
Message: 99 cc 5.2
just a thought....I was wondering how well my ac evap was draining i can hear slawshing in the fire wall passenger side however no water on floor or under carpet. Kinda thinking drain could be partly pluged(It does drip a bit ). My idea fashion the end of a garden hose to the ac drain, other end to shop vac and see what comes out! does this sound like a good idea? then put the elbow on . I dont want to pull the whole dash out:( that is far too much work. Or cut a new drain in the bottom of the hvac unit and run it out the fire well too. should i give it a try or would i be wasting time?

Message: When do you hear the noise? Sometimes you hear the system stabilizing when you shut it off, that's normal. You might try blowing compressed air up through the drain if it's accessible.

Message: I've heard people say that they just poked something in the drain tube on the firewall, and water came out. If you've got a long plastic wire tie, 8" or more, that should work...stick it in as far as you can and wiggle it around. Apparently, the drain gets plugged up, and the "sloshing" you hear is the water trapped in the evap housing.

Message: Where is the drain located on a 2001 CC? I am getting a moldy smell when I shut the AC off. I want to make sure the drain is not plugged up.
Thanks

Message: Recently had the same problem. Sounded like the fan was swimming in the box - it was. After much discussion with the service manager and a couple test drives with employees, they agreed to open up the dash and investigate. Found the condenser core blocking the escape of water to the drain. They replaced the core and repositioned it to assure a clear path for water to drain. This seems to be a frequent problem. BTW when full, water would naturally collect in the passengers floor area - Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

Message: The AC drain on a Gen 3 Dak comes through the firewall behind the passenger side cylinder head and transmission dipstick tube. It's only about 1" or so long, hard to see...about 1" in diameter. Poke your probe in there. There's a metal shield directly below that funnels the water down and off to the side.
