Subject: Question about cats ... IP: Logged
Message: So after searching on here for awhile, and spending some time under my truck (99 3.9L) I have figured out that my rattling is coming from the cat, which is fairly clogged as my gas mileage and my power is non-existant. Since my truck has 88,xxx miles on it, the warranty no longer covers the cats, and I am left with the option of cleaning it out, removing all the broken parts. Now my question is, what is the easiest way to get at the cat? I only see one u-bolt up by the exhaust manifold, and nothing beyond it until the muffler. The heat sheilding around the cat doesn't appear to have any bots or anything else holding it on (save welding.) Any ideas on how best to take it down to clean it out?

Message: Sawzall about 8" to 10" behind the cat....Pull it down and take a good steel bar and a hammer and go to work....Be safe and wear a mask. That stuff cant be good for you. Now the best way to hook everything up is go to your local Heavy truck shop(Semi shop) and get what are called band clamps. They are stainless steel clamps that are about 4" wide. When you tighten them down they stretch and create a leakproof seal and are the best thing ever made...I dont know why more people dont use them. Hope this helps you out
