hey what are you guys getting out of the 4x4 dakota with a 4.7 auto? Im barely cracking 11-12 MPG. I hear about some recall on the computer to reflash it? is that for gas mileage or ?
Im tired of getting the same mileage out of my dakota that I got out of my crew cab 4x4 with a 454. I replaced air filter, oil and plugs.
power seems fine plugs were fine also.
Any of you guys run into drastic gas mileage losses?
Thanx
Rob

Rob--
You didn't describe the kind of driving you're doing, but that sounds a bit on the low end. I drive 70 miles a day to and from work with about 50 of that at 70-75mph and I get around 17mpg with my 01 4wd cc 4.7 auto. Have gotten 19 a couple of times with all highway driving. First thing I did though was get shed of the Goodyears. Put on Michelin SUV Cross Terrains. Quiet and good handling tire. Now have 36k and feel the 4.7 is just getting broken in. Great truck in my opinion.

I mostly drive to and from the shop about 3 miles away. I do go on the freeway throughout the day about 65 MPH.Once in a while I floor it. I tried some fuel injector cleaners thinking possibly clogged injectors. The gas mileage wasnt that great when I bought it new but at least it was 14-15. now it dropped so i was wondering if its somethign anyone came across and if anyone ran into this problem

Rob,
I get around 16-17mpg at 65mph in my 00 QC, 4wd. I wonder if that short distance to work is not allowing your truck to warm up fully for optimal performance.

The "EPA" Indicates that a "majority" of these vehicles obtain 15 to 21mpg highway under ideal conditions. Turn on tha AC, mash the pedal and TADA, 15 turns into 13mpg.

Anything is possible with this thing. I jsut dont get why the mileage dropped like that. and Im nto even getting 13 MPG the highest I calculated was 12 MPG
As for the Civic comment dude Im nto expecting 30 MPG out of a truck but it would be nice if this thing got somewhere around 14-15. This thing has jsut as bad mileage as my crew cab dually 4x4. And that thing had the excuse of being a fat pig with a 454 CID motor. this dakota doesnt have that problem. Its 1/2 the truck with 1/2 the motor.
Im not expecting 30 MPG but 11 is ridiculous out of such a small truck

Are you running large tires? Check your cat and o2 sensor.

For some reason my truck has an automatic 5 speed transmission, I get 23 mpg on the highway but only 10-12 in town. My sticker also states 5 speed automatic, Its an '01 4x4 w/4.7 ltr and I also run 33's on it. Anybody ever heard of the 5 speed automatic. I thought they were all 4 speeds even with the overdrive?
