Subject: Grinding noise from gas pedal... IP: Logged
Message: OK, recently my 2000 2.5l has been making this grinding noise sometimes when i let the gas pedal all the way up then stops when i press the gas down again. It does this at all speeds in all 5 gears. Can anyone tell me what this is or could be?

Message: It only happens when you 'jump' off the gas? Do you do anything with the clutch when it happens, and can you give us an idea of where the grinding is coming from.
My best guess with the limited information already there is snycomesh wear.... I say this because it sounds like when spining fast enough your gears and collars are engaging properly, but not at lower speeds, or if your engine vacuum attempts to create some engine breaking. It is also possible the gears themselves are warn, but I guess snycos first because they do wear out under normal use.
Possibly clutch slip as the flywheel suddenly slows because of teh vacuum.... you'd be albe to smell this one if you did it a coupla times.

Message: I recently bought a 1988 3.9L automatic. Sounds like the same problem. When I am pressing the pedal enough to keep speed, I hear a grinding noise and feel it in the pedal, but it goes away sometimes, but it can come back if I hit a bump! It is noticeable anywhere above 25 mph. HELP PLEASE!!!
