Subject: 5- Speed question IP: Logged
Message: I know it's been covered on the site, but I have a question about a shifter for my 5- speed. I have a 97 2wd V6. I have taken my stick out:) a couple of times and realize that what mates the stick to the transmission is a ball and the shifter is held in by a spring and a collar. My question is, if I find a stick with a similar end, why couldn't I use it on mine. I know that people have mentioned bolts and transmission numbers, but I think anything that looked similar would work. I don't know much about this, and have had mixed answers from various mechanics and even dealers. Some help would be appreciated.
