I recently got new tires put on my 1997 Dodge Dakota SLT at Fire Stone and they said that I had bad upper control arm bushings and that they didn't suggest doing an alignment with them being bad. And of course they wanted $450.00 to replace them due to the "intense labor", according to the Fire Stone mechanic, in replacing them. So I decided to get out my dodge dakota book that you buy at Auto Zone and try to do it my self. It turned out to be pretty easy, just unbolting a bunch of stuff. So far, I'm asking my self where's the intense labor at? So I go to Auto Zone to buy the bushings and they bring a set out. I opened the box and they looked way too small. He argues that their the right ones and I say there's no way. So I check with all the other auto part stores in the area and they all give me the same ones. So then I go to my last resort, the dealership. They tell me that there's 2 set of bushings for my truck, the early 1997 dakotas and the later 1997 dakotas. but then they don't have the part and send me 50 miles down the highway to get them. The whole time that I was driving, I was thinking to my self, here's the intense labor. So I get the bushings, and go to a local machine shop to have them pressed on. They had to use a torch to melt the old bushings off. Anyways, my truck is back on the road after all of the intense labor. I hope noone else has to go through all of this.
