Subject: Robert Shaw Where? pt 2 IP: Logged
Message: I have searched all over for these thermostats. I have heard that they are available at Autozone. While the part numbers show up in their database, the thermostats are not available. I can find all sorts of balanced thermostats from Mr. Gasket and Robert Shaw for Chevy's and Fords, but none for Dodge! How frustrating! Summit Racing even sold me the wrong part (330-180)! I could make it work with a dremel, but I really don't want to and shouldn't have to start grinding away at my intake manifold.
Robert Shaw sold it's line of thermostats to Cooper Industries, home of Cooper Tires. I have called and emailed them. They don't return calls.
Can somebody post the name and number of a contact where I can find the 400-180? the GT755-180 would also work, but I would prefer the non-conventional/higher flow style.
P.S. I had purchased a Hypertech 180 degree thermostat from Summit and tested it last night. It opened at 195. This may be a fluke, but i have to wonder what it would do under pressure? The water was boiling by the time it opened up completely.
Anxiouslyy awaiting a contact where I can buy a thermostat that will open on time.
-Matt

Message: Matt, I have a brand new Robert Shaw GT755-180 and a Stant gasket. Another guy is supposed to be sending me a money order for it, but I haven't seen it show up yet. If it doesn't show up in the next few days, I might have my T-stat for sale. $11 is the going price for both items, including shipping, if you might be interested.

Message: An old post on "180 Thermostat" mentioned Speedtweeks as a source for Robertshaw. The Robertshaw factory in Knoxville, Tennessee quit making auto thermostats several years ago; they've gone to industrial applications. The closest I've come to finding Stant is a Pep Boys, but not in stock. Big zero for Advance,Autozone, and NAPA.

Message: Thank you for the replys, everybody.
02 sport,
I may take you up on that. A local speed shop told me today that they could order one and have it in on Monday. I've heard this one before. We'll see if they can pull it off.
Honestly, I'm trying to find an accurate, high flow thermostat to try to combat a overheating or at least warm run problem that doesn't show up until I hop on the gas. I've replaced everything except the motor. The replacment thermostat that I had ordered had a small opening and it opened at the wrong time. I want to rule it out once and for all.
The ponies wouldn't be too bad of a thing either.

Thank you,
