Subject: Horn chirp? disable it? IP: Logged
Message: I've read a lot of conflicting reports from different boards on how to disable the horn chirp when you arm the factory security system in the new Daks. I've got a 2001 and the horn blirping at me everytime I use the remote to lock the truck gets a little annoying. Just wondering if any other '01 owners have learned how to disable the horn chirp?

Message: The process in the owners manual WILL NOT WORK!! I tried it, the dealer has to go in with a hand held device and turn it off. Thats the only way. mike

Message: Your alarm activates automaticly when you lock the doors with out using the key set. I didn't discover this untill I read the manual. I too was iritated by the beep everytime I set the alarm but sometimes it's good to have if you see punks around. When I am at home I just use the power door locks to set it. I know not everyone has power door lock but your truck is loaded.

Message: Hmmm .. guess it DOES pay to read the owner's manual.....hehehe.
The procedure listed does work.
1. Get in.
2. Fasten your seat belt.
3. Turn the ignition on.
4. Hold the lock button for 4 seconds
5. While holding the lock button press the panic button.
6. A chime rings to let you know it worked.
And ... it worked.
Thanks Cyberwolf for making me take a 2nd look at the book!

Message: Does anyone know how to completely disable the factory alarm? Mine is malfunctioning and I put an aftermarket alarm on, but the factory one goes off every once and a while. Also my doors will unlock on their own....

Message: DB,
If you have an 02, why would you put an aftermarket alarm on? I'm missing something here.
Should be under warranty. Your doors unlocking should also be covered, but may be a result of the aftermarket alarm installed.

Message: I put an aftermarket alarm on because even a mediocre car thief knows how to defeat a factory alarm.
The doors unlocking is most likely due to the malfunctioning switches mentioned in a TSB, and not the alarm (the lock circuit from the alarm has been disconnected and the problem persists)

Message: okay, I am wondering something here.
I have a 98 Dak with the key fob that has lock, unlock, and panic.
When I hit the lock on the FOB the doors lock and the horn chirps. Now, what I am wondering is do I have a factory alarm? If so, what and how is the thing working?
I have noticed that on one occasion that I would inadvertantly hit the panic button and the word SECURITY will flash in my dash.
If I use the FOB to lock the truck, what anti theft devices are there?
Thanks.

Message: BLIZZARD you rock.
The steps to shut down the horn chirp are not in the 03 Durango owners manual and my $%#& dealership wanted to charge me to do it. 45 seconds later i did it myself with your instructions. Thanks Man!

Message: I have an 01 dakota and have had an aftermarket alarm installed. Never got the one from the dealer enabled... But I'm running into problems with the aftermarket one competeing with the factory one. If I lock the doors by aftermarket remote everything works fine. But if I goof and hit the power locks on the door and then unlock it with the aftermarket remote it sets the factory alarm off. Anyone know how to fix this???
