Subject: Difference in Truck Years IP: Logged
Message: What is the difference in the 1999 and the 2000 dak? I wanted to get a Haynes manual for my 2000, but they only sold manuals covering daks up to 1999. Is there that much difference between the two yrs?

Message: I think the 2000 model year is the "face-lift" year. Some of the trim and upholstery is different. Some of the body electronics will be different (wipers, lighting, etc). Drive-line components remained the same.

Message: they also changed some things in the wiring harnesses - you will find the '99 book helpful, but dont try to trace wires in a '00 - present based on the colors stated in the 97-99. You will end up confused, driving a truck with random electrical components off whack.

Message: I think that drivetrain was the main reason for repair manuals only up through 1999. That was the last of the 5.2 V-8's. The 4.7 came out in 2000, and they are dragging their feet featuring the new engine.

Message: 01Motorsport...you are right dude. That is the first year of the 4.7L engine and 45RFE transmission in the Dakota. I forgot all about that. They were used first in 1999 in Jeep Grand Cherokee's.

Message: Get the Dodge manual for your truck. It is DETAILED. Anything you want to do with the truck will be easier with the manual. It is a bit $$$, but I think it is worth the cost.

Message: doug4.7 is right. If you plan to keep the truck long term, you can't beat the factory manual.
