Message: I e-mailed amsoil to find out what fluid I would need for my NV3500 and they said I could use the same oil I choose for the engine. Is this true? I'm going to use 5w-30 for the engine...I always have. Even though some people say 10w-30 for here in S. Florida.
Seems I might need something different.

Message: I would go with the Mopar fluid. I asked the same question and heard that it's the smoothest and quietest of all the fluids. BUT, the New Ventures website does say you can use 5-30 engine oil, so it's your call. I don't know if anyone's tried AMS in one or not. It may be better than the Mopar stuff. Let us know. I'd sure hate to keep spending $10/qt when there's something cheaper and better.

Message: Red Line is cheaper than 10/qt, and about that with shipping. I like M1, but I like Red Line ever more. A friend and I both ran M1 in the rear. He had grinding problems in his WRX and I just did a gear swap. I like the Red Line a lot more. It's good stuff. Lives up to its name.

I use the AMSOIL HDD 5w-30 and have been doing so for almost 200,000 miles in my NV3500.
The transmission feels as if it just came out of the factory and the tailshaft bushing tolerences are still at factory specs.

Now if I could just get those clutches to last longer !!

Message: I had nothing but problems with M1, hard shifting and if you werent at a dead stop, reverse to first was impossible, Had fluid level rechecked, it was up to specs and finally had to go back to the mopar stuff. Change done at 20000km. Dealers were adament about using the in house brand, even the shop manual states mopar only. I know what your going to say, thats what they want you to run, but the other fluids have specifications for use, only the tranny says only use mopar only.

Message: I've been running Red Line MTL in my '02 for nearly 20,000 miles. Big improvement in shift quality and no problems. It's has a very low sulphur content which is key. I paid $8 a quart from Summit. I'm very happy with it. Sku is 57904

Amsoil has only two pricing structures.
Retail & Preferred Customer (Wholesale)
AMSOIL Preferred Customers purchase AMSOIL products at wholesale cost. Preferred Customer Memberships are recommended for people want the lowest possible prices on the best lubrication and filtration products for their vehicles and equipment. Preferred Customers pay the same low prices for AMSOIL products that AMSOIL Dealers pay (wholesale).
Ten dollars ($10) gets you a six-month trial Preferred Customer membership for buying AMSOIL products at wholesale prices. Twenty dollars for a full year.
The discount price is 15-20% less than regular retail prices.

Message: What is the recommended fluid change interval for this tranny? The maint schedule in the owner's manual says nothing about changing it. The New Venture Gear website says it is lifetime lubrication. I have trouble swallowing *that*. A dealer tried getting me to change it at 12,000 miles, and I didn't bite. I am approaching 24,000 and would like to know if I should look into this in addition to the diff oil change.
I have done a minor amount of towing - about 1,000 miles pulling from 1,500 through 5,500 pounds.
Oh yeah, how many quarts?

Message: modain: If it makes you feel better I have 45K on my '00 4x2 and have never changed my fluid. Never thought about it and never had a problem. My last 5spd was a Nissan 4x4 v6 and I never changed the fluid in the 60K that I ownd it. Never had a problem.
I think I may try the amsoil this time. If I don't end up liking it what the hell. I'll just put the mopar fluid back in.
2 quarts for a 4x4 and 3 quarts for a 4x2.
Why more for a 4x2 than a 4x4? Seems like it would be the opposite.
One more question? How many quarts do I need for the rear differential? I'm gonna change that as well.
