Subject: Intermittant AC problem IP: Logged
Message: So, I've had my AC checked out by 3 different dealers, with no success.
Problem: The A/C produces an extremely harsh smell, very sweet, smells like coolant. It is so bad that you have to shut down the A/C and drop the windows to air it out. This is VERY intermittant. I will happen 3 times in one short drive, and then not happen for a week. Then will occur once, then not again for a few days. Bizarre. The smell is horribly noxious. It's like sucking in coolant vapors from a hose!
Like I said, it's so intermittant that no dealer can diagnose it, as it hasn't happened while in their shop.
This smell happens regardless of whether the A/C is set on MAX (recirculating) or fresh intake.
The evaporator was already sprayed with the "cleaner" crap that supposedly takes care of mold issues. The truck was examined for leakes underneath. No leaks that could come back up into the A/C. No leaks at all.
I'm at a total loss now. I live in Florida and the A/C is a huge thing for me. I can live with it I suppose, but it just drives me crazy, cause I know something is wrong.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Message: Might want to check hoses for cracks that might be expanding/contracting and letting freon out.
