Message: Why? I had thought of selling my truck but if you look at my post "The Cost of Speed" on the performance board, you will see my reasoning for not selling it. Take into account the amount of money you will loose compared to what you payed for the truck and the loss in MPG!

Message: Great News!! The 4.7 is already a "hemi," so why wait til 2002? There's a post elsewhere on this board with a link to a (1999) technical article about the "new" 4.7L motor. It's got hemispherical combustion chambers, folks. And my combo (3.55 posi rear, 5-spd manny tranny) gets the same mileage (if not better) than my Dad's 1999 3.9L CC with the 3.55 open rear and 5-spd manny tranny. 16 on da skreet, 20-21 on da hi-way. Bone Bone Bone Stock, my 4.7 ran 15.90's on a new motor, while my Dad's (stock) runs 16.90's on a 25,000 motor. Sell, but go ahead and buy a 4.7 soon! Don't miss out on the fun!

Message: alex you are smoking crack it takes more than a hemi style combustion to have a hemi you need the spark plug in the center of the combustion chamber so the 4.7 is not a hemi engine

Message: So, the spark plug will be at the top of the cumbustion chamber on the 5.7, huh? How many hundreds of horsepower and pounds of Torque will THAT be worth? Is that why those crazy Hemi Road Runners were so darned fast in 1969? The Spark Plug Location? Wow. Wonder why Dodge didn't think of that when they designed this blasted 4.7 that's not a Hemi..... Sheesh.
Well, good luck on your 5.7 Hemi R/T that you'll absolutely be able to order this coming October! Send me photos of those huge Hemi Valve Covers!
Where's my God-Forsaken Crack Pipe? I'm always losing the thing........
PS- Don't forget to read the article......

Message: The 4.7 is simmilar and based on the Hemi. Hopefully everyone can live with that comment. I just went and read up on this 5.7 Hemi and want one. It doesn't sound like it will be out for at least a couple years however so what will you drive in the mean time BigG ?
I will probably however stick with the 4.7 because I love the SOHC (the new Hemi will be a push rod) and beleive in time I will get all the power want from this engine and take advantage of the light weight to keep the 5.7 Hemi in check when it's available. Sounds like the Hemi will run the Dak around 13.9 to 14.2 stock.

Message: Let's do one last comparison.......
5.7 hemi -> prototype engine slated for POSSIBLE release late in 2002 or 2003.
4.7 non-hemi-> I own one and get to drive it every day until the 5.7 comes out.
If it ever comes out. Daimler Chrysler has been making some brash financial moves (like trash-canning the Charger 4.7L, the turbo-4 PT Cruiser, and the Howler 4.7 concept programs). From where I sit (in the driver's seat of my 4.7L non-hemi), nothing is a given at Mopar these days. Whether the 4.7 is a hemi or not, all I was EVER suggesting was that Big G should not sell his Dakota too early based on some website rumors about a truck that sounds nice but may never be built. I was not here to fight about engines or combustion chamber design.

Message: What makes the Hemi great is not necessarily the center spark plug and combustion chamber design but it's opposed valve design. This is what nascar outlawed not the hemispherical combustion chamber. The intake goes into the cylinder and the exhause is a straight shot out the other side, the valves are not in line with the cylinder bank as on a wedge motor. This opposed valve design is what makes those valve covers so huge on a old 426 hemi, they are leaning off each side of that hemi cumbustion chamber.

Message: Not to drag this out much more, but will this 5.7 "hemi" that everybody on this site is so jacked about have the true opposed valves that were the basis of the original design?
I haven't seen ANY technical material describing this engine. All I've seen is that it will have 350~ horsepower. Where's the technical article on this engine?
