Subject: Hey, 02Sport+, leak!! IP: Logged
Message: I am trying to find out how to get to the inside portion of the AC condensate tube. My 01QC tube is exactly where you CAN'T get at it on the bottom of the firewall! Can you get at it from inside and run a new tube?
Have had two O2 sensors go bad because of this and am tired of the Putt-Putt sound when I stop.
Thanks

Message: Ken, I may not be much help to you, I'm afraid. My truck is a RC 4x2, but I'd think it'd be the same as a QC. I got to the AC drain tube from the engine compartment on the passenger side. It was right behind the dipstick, at the back of the cylinder head. 3/4" OD, sticks straight out of the firewall about 1" or so. I could reach it fairly easy if I went in under the chrome can (evaporator?), and reached around the back of the head. I had to remove the stock air intake for clearance.
To get to it from the inside, you have to tear the whole freakin' dash out, or so I've heard. With the carpet and the insulator pad pulled back, I still couldn't see or feel the drain tube where it exits through the firewall. I ran water down into the cowl and door front, making sure that it hadn't come in that way. All my seams were well sealed, and I saw no water coming in at the front of the cab. I also ran water along my rear window, watching the rear of the cab, and I didn't see any leaks there, either. So, I'm pretty sure that my leak was the AC drain wicking back inside the cab. Unless water is leaking out of the enclosure, which I don't think was the case, as the top of the carpet wasn't wet...I'd have never known I had a problem if I hadn't pulled up the carpet and looked...my problem should be solved with the short hose and elbow that I put on the drain spigot.
You might want to look again, if your engine compartment is like mine, you should be able to reach the drain. Unless, of course, you have a broken tube, and it's leaking inside, which is a whole different story. Good luck!!

Message: I'd have to have a 4' 3/4"around arm! The tube on the QC is directly behind the intake manifold on the bottom of the heat shield. I can't even get a finger on it. Barely can see it. Would require removing "carb" and sundry equipment to get at. That is why I'd hoped for a way to get at from inside.
Thanks!

Message: Yeah, it didn't occur to me ask what engine you had. I can see where the 4.7 would be a problem, mine's a 3.9. Hope you can figure something out, or maybe someone else with a 4.7 has come up with an ingenius idea.
