Subject: 1990 rear end problems IP: Logged
Message: just blew out the spider gears and who knows what else on my 90 V6 5speed 2WD dakota. what other years besides 1990 will bolt right up. I am going to the junkyard in the morning and need to know. What is the difference between the round and hexagonal rear covers they keep asking me about?

Message: You want an 87-90 rear end. The round cover is an 8 1/4, that's what you probably have now and that's what you want to get. The hexagonal cover is the 7 1/4, basically only suitable for 4 cylinder trucks. Good luck!

Message: A 4 cylinder rear will bolt in but your driveshaft will be too long or too short, I can't remember which one it is.
