Subject: Line-X Liner Faded IP: Logged
Message: I had Line-X spray in a liner that matched my truck color about 6 months ago (dark red, looked very nice). I just noticed that the liner exposed to the sun has faded quite significantly over that time. I have a camper shell that protects most of the liner, but there is a thin section on the tailgate that has been exposed to the elements and it has faded from a deep red to a brownish color. I figured it would last longer than that.
I am not sure if this is 'normal' or not, but I figured other Dak owners would want to know.

Message: That's why I just went with a black one. I used Alpha liner in Vegas. Took about 1 hour (dries on contact) Will not fade and lifetime warranty. I thought about a white one but was scared it would turn yellowish.

Message: Since this is not a 'show' truck, I don't really care about the fading. I wanted a color other than black (my last one would 'cook' things in the bed, even with a camper shell) and I was going to go with gray when I found out the price was the same for 'any color except black', so I went for the paint match.
It still looks nice, but my post was just a word of warning to anyone who wants a 'show' truck.

Message: I have to go look at the guarantee. It may have one of those 'slight fading over time is not considered to be a defect...' clauses. What I needed it to do (protect the bed), it is doing. The cool color was a bonus, but I will read the details of the fine print and report back (for those who might be thinking of a Line-X liner).

Message: Try a dab of Armor-All or similar product on a smal patch, it should bering the color back up. If this works, go by a RhinoLiner dealer and get a bottle of Rhino Shine - it is like a heavy duty version of Armor All, and it works like a champ - LineX may sell a similar product for their liners as well. The edges of my RhinoLiner did the same thing while I was overseas for 5 months, exposed black went to gray - just applied to the faded areas on the tailgate and rails, and it all matches and looks like new again.

Message: My buddy owns a Line-X shop here in Nor Cal and he tries to sway people away from the colored liners because of the fading problems. I've heard all of the colors usually fade to a brown color, which sucks.

Message: Hey Greg, where is your buddy's shop, and what kind of prices does he have? I have a 99 CC in San Jose and looking to get a Line-X to replace the 6 month old drop-in that's already warped! Thanks!

Message: ALL the liners fade over time I dont care who made it. some fade faster than others. As for the fading you may be able to get them to re top coat it, but usually its not a free bee. the lifetime warranties dont cover fading they cover cracking and peeling. on my bedliners I offer a lifetime warranty on fading if the guy wants to purchase the top coat at the time I spray his truck.

Message: I talked to a Line-X dealer recently and they, also, tried to steer me away from colored liners. Said the fading was normal on anything except black, and they don't warranty color fading.
I was looking for Black, grey and white in a patter, and she said that the white would turn grey and the grey would fade, eventually both would be the same color.
I'm gonna stick to the basic black.
$365 for under rail
+$40 for over rail

Message: There are top coats out there that fix faded liners. its not forever mabey a couple of years then you have to redo it again.
As for the black not fading its BS. what it does it looses its shine then turns a grayish color.
Ive had my top coats last as much as 2 years thats why I dont mind offering a lifetime warranty. You can have it top coated to give it the shine and bring back the color.
ive rejuvenated line X liners and also Rhino liners with top coat. Not one complaint. You need about 1 pint to cover a 6 foot bed. a little more for a 8 foot bed.
I buy it by the gallon but I do sell it in pints also
You can do it yourself at home if you wish.
Give me a call at the shop tomorrow ( california time) 714 848 2444

That was a special price I got because I knew him and also brought two trucks in at once to be done. Regular price with over the rails is $400.

Message: Yeah...I only paid $340 for mine. He measured and took the fiberglass tonneau off. The bedliner in only visible when I raise the cover. This was not a special...anyone can get it. (If you want to drive to Vegas)
