Message: My 1990 Dakota 3.9 L V-6 Auto losses power on the slightest hill. Timing,Fuel,Vacuum ,plugs, ign wires check OK. In neutral engine accelerates fine - In Park against the foot brake engine peaks at 1200 RPM and the Timing retards 15-20 degrees. Pedal to the floor
does not increase RPM. Would appreciate any ideas.

Message: Another way is to look for the metal tags that are held onto the rear differential cover by the bolts. I believe one is on the bottom left and the other on the top right. They have the gear ratio stamped onto them. On mine, one says 3.55 and the other says 3.547 I believe. I am not sure if the 3.91 diffs are the same way, but it couldn't hurt to check.
As for the power loss, a K&N air intake and a good flow-through catalytic converter and muffler should help. My Dak is a manual, so on hills (Snoqualmie Pass...) I would just downshift to third gear. The exhaust and intake I installed took care of that.
