Subject: 318 to 360 swap questions IP: Logged
Message: OK, Im thinking of yanking my 318 to drop a 360 into my '99 Dakota CC. I know I'll need the Harmonic Balancer, Flexplate, and the computer from the donor truck. But I have a couple other questions.
First of all, The computer I need is the 3 plug one thats mounted under the hood on the passenger side ,,right? AND Will replacing this computer reset my mileage etc.. to reflect what the donor vehicle had on it? or will my mileage and everything remain the same?
Also ,, Is there anything keeping me from using my Dakotas 318 oil pan on the 360? Ive heard that RAMS have a different oil pan design, and if I use a 360 from a Ram I want to know what I will have to do to get the 360 to drop in easily without any hassles.
This should be a "plug & Play" setup I hope!
Any help is greatly appreciated...

Message: I'm a tad bit confused. If you are doing a complete engine swap then why does all that need changed? Usually harmonic balancer changes are for swapping cranks from engine to engine.

Message: You need to swap harmonic balancers because the 318 is internally balanced and the 360 is externally balanced. ANDE: get an oil pan for a Dakota R/T or Quad Cab with a 360 and you should be all set. As for a computer, if you are going to get a 360 computer, I'd get a Mopar Performance 360 computer.
