Subject: Careful, they're watching us! IP: Logged
Message: Came across this in an article recent article in Wired News about the dangers of in-dash monitors and DVD players...
==============================================
Still, laws aren't stopping some from finding a way around the safety devices.
"Need a little help," reads one post on a Dodge Dakota message board. "I want to put DVD player in dash, however I heard that it will not work while vehicle is moving. Is there any way to get around this?"
===============================================
There's even a link to this very site. It's on the top of page 2 of this article...

Driving is driving (or cruzin)...talking on cells, watching tv, and all that, save it for home use. Thats MO.

Message: I still don't understand why anyone would put a DVD screen in their car unless its in the back seat for friends and family. You got to be a true idiot for watching T3 while commuting through heavy traffic. It's pretty much the same thing as driving while blindfolded.

Message: I agree. Its all about being responsible. People, as many of us, talk on cell phones while driving. Or really get into the radio drummen on the dash and stuff. This is just the newest thing to come along in the string of automobile dangers. What about our children. Ive seen time and time again a parent looking back at their child in the rear seat. All of it is a danger on the road. Im not trying to disagree with you. But we must look at it in right context. Later

Message: Ok, I asked a co-worker this and he didn't have a good answer.
Question: What is the difference between talking on a hands-free cell phone and a trucker talkin on his CB?
Answer: The trucker learned how to drive.
Seriously. People could very easily talk on a cell phone, listen to the radio, whatever, if they learned how to be observant and responsible for their actions. instead, they f*** up and blame the cell phone for their lack of attention.
FD&H
Fat, dumb, and happy. About 90% of the people driving today.
I learned how to drive from a person who was a school-bus driver. For the first two years of driving I thought everyone had to stop at railroad tracks. And I've taken it very seriously when I have passengers in the vehicle since I am responsible for their lives.
How many others can claim the same mentality?
Now, I'm just fed up with being the only person on the road that still adheres to the laws. So, if you cut me off, you better be moving faster than me. I'm no longer going to back off for you a$$holes. The law would be on my side, and I would take great satisfaction plowing into your a$$es and watching you bleed out on the road.

Message: ok, sorry for the rant. Bad morning.
BTW - Anyone have an idea why the blower motor on my Dak would just suddenly stop? It isn't the fuse, I already checked, and the A/C still seems to be working, just no airflow (other than that pushed through the system at 60 MPH)

Message: Try checking the blower resistor block located inside the cowl under the windshield. It is accessable from under the hood. I haven't had a problem with mine but I know others who have. It is about a $7.00 part.

I found the actual post that was quoted in that article. It was from last summer by a guy named gbas. He's probably smashed his truck up by now and had his insurance company buy him something new. I bumped the post, it's in the Custom Audio forum titled "mobile DVD".

Message: I say the DVD is a good and bad Idead. If it were not for my indash, my wife would drive me up a wall every time we took a vacation. We drive straight thru to georgia every year from Illinois and it takes about 15 hours. Also when I take lunch at work it is really nice just to sit back and watch TV for an hour while eating my PB&J.
But you get these people that try to watch TV AND DRIVE at the same time and they are just trying to kill someone. I do admit when 9-11 happened I was in slow traffic and the TV was the only thing keeping really up to date through-out the morning.
Also, there is a way to make it so that you watch while moving. Mose In-dash tv's have a cable that you connect to the parking brake. all you have to do is cut the wire and not hook it up.

Message: Well, I don't have one in the dash, but for long road trips, I just plug the laptop in to the cigarette lighter and the kids just magically shut up....and it fits perfectly between the front seat out of the way. Its just like listening to the radio for the wife and I too. And we all make it safely to grandma's house:)
