 Subject: How much shorter is a 91-96 rear axle?

How much shorter is a 91-96 dakota rear axle compared to the 97+. Im looking to do air ride and would need to get my axle shortened 3 inches on the back for my rims to tuck. Someone told me that the 91-96 are 4 inch shorter and have the 6 bolt pattern. Can anyone verify this?

Didn't we cover this on the other board, lol. The Gen II axle is about 2" narrower.

Thanks for the reply. Its just that I had someone tell me today that they were 4 inches shorter just wanted to get it straighten out.
