Subject: Replacing the whole "rack" IP: Logged
Message: I have bad inner tie rods and ball joints on my 99 2wd 5-speed V6 Dak. I got a quote of $400 to fix it. It was suggested that I might be able to replace the hwole "RACK" for less....or at least the same amount....and possibly do the work myself.
Does any one know much about this. I posted here since it is suspension related. I'm not completely sure what the "rack" consists of.
Thanks

Message: I had to do the samething on my Dakota. It is actually a really easy swap. You can probably get a new rack from a salvage yard for about $100. Then you just need to unbolt the tie rod ends, disconnect your hoses, tap out the roll pin holding the steering linkage on and unbolt the rack. Once you look at it you will have a better idea of what I am talking about, but it is pretty simple. Feel free to email me if you have more questions.
Thanks
Dan
