Subject: speed senor problem IP: Logged
Message: I have a 4.7 2000 2wd dakota. I have 50,000 trouble free miles. I recently had the ABS light and parking brake light go on and the speedo didn't work until 35 miles an hour. I replaced the rear speed senor on the diferential the Abs and parking light went off. The speedo quit working and a check engine light came on. I ran the codes throught the computer and it spit out --P0500--DONE-- i know the code means ---"no vihicle speed senor signal dected during road load conditions"--
Has this happened to anyone other then me? What solved the problem?
Thank you Buford

Message: If you have front antilock, the speed sensor wire has very little clearance between the hub and the brake rotor. If it moves even 1/4" or so it can be cut. The good news is that the wire can be soldered. Mine was cut after I installed my ball joints (installer error). I soldered it up and 5,000 miles later, still no problems. Another thing to check is that they are coated with a film of some sort. Kind of like a silicone grease, but I'm not sure what it actually is. If that is gone, it's possible that it's not sensing correctly.
