Subject: speed senor problem

Message:
I have a 4.7 2000 2wd dakota. I have 50,000 trouble free miles. I recently had the ABS light and parking brake light go on and the speedo didn't work until 35 miles an hour. I replaced the rear speed senor on the diferential the Abs and parking light went off. The speedo quit working and a check engine light came on. I ran the codes throught the computer and it spit out --P0500--DONE-- i know the code means ---"no vihicle speed senor signal dected during road load conditions"--

Has this happened to anyone other then me? What solved the problem?

Thank you Buford

If you have front antilock, the speed sensor wire has very little clearance between the hub and the brake rotor. If it moves even 1/4" or so it can be cut. The good news is that the wire can be soldered. Mine was cut after I installed my ball joints (installer error). I soldered it up and 5,000 miles later, still no problems. Another thing to check is that they are coated with a film of some sort. Kind of like a silicone grease, but I'm not sure what it actually is. If that is gone, it's possible that it's not sensing correctly.
