Subject: Squeaking Sound IP: Logged
Message: Hello Everyone:
I got my first truck(00 dakota 3.9) this week and I have one very annoying problem. In the back of the truck where the drive shaft(I assuming this is the long spinning thing that hooks up to the axel????) meets the axel, I get a loud squeaking sound only when the car going slow(ie up to 15mph). Can anyone think of what it could be. I looks pretty rusty there. I am sorry I do not know the proper terminology, I am learning. But if you describe what it is and how I can fix it, I can probably figure it out.

Message: Club-cab, quad cab, regular cab?
If it is the CC or QC it could be the carrier bearing (the bearing between the front/rear driveshafts).
Have you securely put it on jackstands to try and locate the problem more closely?

Message: I have the same problem. Although, it sounds like the one of the rear leaf springs or something. Everytime I go over a speed bump, or any bump for that matter, it squeeks. It's starting to drive me up the walls. It makes my 02 Quad cab sound like an old rusty bucket.

Message: Check the fluid level in the differential - if it is low you'll get noise at slow speeds.

Message: how many miles does the vehicle have on it, if its a lot its probably a universal joint, generally oem u joints can't be greased so they wear out sooner than the replacment ones that come with a grease zerk fittings
