I bought my Dakota w/25000 miles. Was supposed to have new brakes but was getting pulsation at 35000. Had front & rear turned & problem went away. Now at 39000 I have the pulsation back. Also, feel a thumping or popping in the steering wheel when I am making a turn(at times.)Any ideas? Pads too hard? Thanks

As far as the "popping in the steering wheel when I am making a turn" goes, check your ball joints. I felt a similar sensation when a lower, passenger side ball joint went out on my '99 4X4.
Although hitting a good sized pot hole at 25 Mph
was the cause of failure, the stock ball joints are crap(from experience, and what i've read from others). Since they are sealed, and non-greasable
it is not un-common for them to wear out within a few years.

Good Luck

If your truck is a 1997-2001, there is actually a Service bulletin out about a "popping noise or sensation in steering wheel while turning". Its caused by loose steering column mount bolts. Its not hard to fix yourself, but the dealer should do it for free, if not, labor time is only .4 hrs.

i have a 2000 club cab and about 9000 miles i had the same problem with the brakes. i took it back to the dealer and they did a complete brake job on it. now at 19000 miles its doing it again. the dealer told me 10000 miles was all the warenty covered on the brakes. so i guess ill pay for it this go round.
