Subject: Tire Size and Drops. IP: Logged
Message: I have just bought tires and wheels for my 2001 Quad Cab. The new tire size is 265/60R17 at 29.4" tall, the stock tire size was 255/65R16 at 29" tall. This seemed to be the closest match. The wheels are R/T replicas, and the tires are the Kumho Ecsta STX's. Approx $1200 mounted, balanced and delivered from TireRack.com. They look "GREAT" on the truck. After reading some threads here, do I need to flash any computer do-das in order to better brake performance (I have the four wheel anti-locks)? Also I would like to drop the truck a little, 2/3 Hotchkis I think. I have a ARE "Z" Series Cap, and I have read the added wieght might make a difference in drop kits. Are there any truckers out there that have any information to share?

Message: ALPO if your wheel backspacing is the same as stock wheels A 2/3 drop should work with no rubbing . I have a 2/3 drop on my sport RC (no cap) and could easily fit a 29" tire . The extra weight on the back will take a little off the front especially with 3" drop in back and there is plenty of room for tire in back,so thats not a problem. I have 28"diameter x 11" section width tires all around and have never rubbed once.

Message: TERRY, Whose drop are you using? How has the drop effected your towing and/or hauling abilities? I like the look, feel and handling of a sport truck BUT, every now and then I use my truck as a truck and haul or tow something. I think I might have heard on this forum that just the extra wieght of a cap might make a difference too. Before I go too far I would like to know ALL the possible setbacks ANYONE might know about.
