Subject: Rear Axle Troubles IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2001 QC 4.7 with anti-spin. Have been (sometimes) experiencing a mild clunk/jump in the rear end. This usually happens when I'm slowly accerlating and let off the gas at between 20 and 25 mph (driving straight, no turns).
I took the truck to my local shop to have the fluid serviced and he found metal pieces in the fluid. Not shavings, but rather look like a broken retaining pin of some sort (now in about 7 pieces).
Before I take it to the local DC dealer, can anyone provide any insight or advice???
Thanks.

Message: if he found actual pices that probably look like a broken washer, you probably had a pinion shim or carrier bearing shim come apart... it explains the clunk from too much play in the gears and the large pieces of metal... definately get it checked and corrected asap as it will ruin your gears and all the bearings in the rear end along with them.
