Subject: To Whom It May Concern IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys, here is a copy of a letter that got sent to Truckin, Sport Truck, Hot Rod, & Car Craft. Just wanted to let you know what was going on, so you don't get F*cked like I did.........
To Whom it may Concern,
I’d like to warn you and your readers about the unscrupulous business practices of one of your advertisers. Capital Wheels (www.capitalwheels.com) is the company in question. Not only do they make an inferior product, they do not stand behind what they sell. The story goes like this……..
Last May I purchased a set of chrome Dakota R/T wheels from Capital. $600 and my factory painted silver wheels (as a core return) was what they cost. Over the winter my wheels started to pit and the chrome began to peel badly. Granted we had a tough winter here in NJ, but I took great care of my truck. It was washed at least once a week and the wheels were cleaned with Fantastic before I went into the car wash. After I came out of the car wash, the wheels were treated with Eagle One spray detailer wax, every time. As a side note I have a daily driver truck, so the Dakota R/T sat in the driveway for weeks at a time until the snow melted. Sounds like my ride was babied and well cared for, right?
Anyway, I called Capital in March and told them of my problem. They said “no problem, there’s a year warranty. We’ll charge you for a new set on your Amex card and send you a new set. When you get the old ones off, send them back and we’ll credit your account”. I had to pay for shipping both ways, some 200 odd dollars worth. So I followed their instructions, and the defective wheels were sent back. I have UPS verification that they were delivered to Capital on 5/2/03. On May 28th I received notice that my Amex card account was suspended for non-payment of a $1400 balance.
When I called Capital and inquired as to what happened, they said…..”There’s nothing we can do until we have verified proof of receipt in our system. UPS tracking means nothing to us. On 6/2/03 I called again and they admitted receipt of the wheels. They also informed me that I would only be getting $ 800 of my $1400 back. They told me that this was due to the fact that I mistreated those wheels by driving them in the snow/bad weather.” That was un-true, my truck sat in the driveway most if not all winter. I did not mistreat those wheels in any way.
So now my Amex account is suspended and there’s a black mark on my credit history due to this incident. When I mentioned this to Capital, their reply was….”You must have done something else to cause Amex to cancel your account, there’s nothing we can do. It’s not our fault”. So here I am, no Amex, bad credit history, & another set of bad wheels. The replacements, which went on in the end of March are peeling now too. I asked for my old silver wheels back. They said, “Fine, but we’re still keeping your money due to your mis-treatment of our products. We don’t warranty them for use in bad weather”. They never told me anything about that policy when I bought them. If they had, I would‘ve never bought them in the 1st place.
Please inform your readers to stay away from these crooks. They specialize in chrome versions of all types of factory wheels, so this affects more than just Dakota R/T owners. I don’t want to see other hard working folks get ripped off like I did.
Thanks, Don Merrick – Howell, NJ

Message: Small claims court and the Better Business Bureau. File a complaint with the BBB. Let capital know that you did this. And consumer reports. Epinions.com as well. Let capital know that you are doing all of this. But first take them to small claims court. If you have documentation then you should be alright. Or get a lawyer and sue the crap out of them.

Message: It's a shame Capital doesn't inform their customers that chrome wheels don't do well when exposed to salt, period. But most companies I imagine probably don't either.
In regards to care of the rims, in the future, on any coated rim, if you are consistent in washing the vehicle at least every other week, the same car-wash soap w/a mitt you use on the vehicle will get the rims just as clean w/out stripping any and all wax off. Have been doing this on mine(unfortunately sometimes only once a month) since I purchased my Dak, the rims still look like new, and that is even with the "junk" factory brake pads that create too much dust. ANY cleaner for rims or household cleaner WILL strip all wax on the rims. Spraying them each time like buzzbass did with detailer wax is great, but it won't last very long (compared to wax you rub on by hand and wipe off when dry)
Sorry to hear about the problems you had buzzbass. I hope you find a better company to deal with in the future if you go down that road again.
2002 QC 4x4 Sport Plus, 4.7L, auto, Patriot Blue, Tire & Handling group, Heavy Duty Service group, Leer cap w/out windows, Mopar Step bars and roof rack, Rhino liner in bed and on step bars, Pace Edwards Power Tailgate lock 3.55 rear, 4-wheel anti-lock brakes, all possible fluids are AMSOIL
