I once read that in a press release from Dodge that the current (97-03) Dakotas are Gen II not III ?

They may be considering the GenI (87-90) and GenII (91-96) as a group, but I can't see why, other than the early Daks were similar from the firewall on back. The new front end to accomodate the V-8 in '91 was a major design change.
