Subject: Auto tranny not shifting right! IP: Logged
Message: Anyone here with a 02 Dakota with the four speed auto tranny notice that it tends to not shift down when you punch it. For some reason, it will stay in either third or fourth gear before it kicks back in to first and second. It revs really high too sometimes. It sounds almost like a supercharger-like whine. It seems that sometimes it doesn't know what gear to shift to.

Message: first question, have you had the fluid changed recently and ATF+4 (or equivalent) put back in?? If no, I have noticed something like that every once in a while. For what ever reason at that particular time the loads were just not right for the 'puter to downshift the tranny. It happens so infrequently foe me I don't worry about it.

Message: Nope, I haven't had the tranny fluid changed. I only have about 9800 miles on it.
Actually, I am starting to get used to the tranny shifting problem. It doesn't happen alot at least.

Message: $175.00 in KY. I have the same problem, and currently my dak is in the shop. First checks for codes, key to on positon 3x's. If have any P01757's or p1762's, theres a chance the solenoid in your tranny is going out. Sometime there is a valve that gets stucks, but mostly it is this solenoid. Good luck
